A foam fire extinguisher has a blue coloured band and is designed for a Class B type of fire. It also works for Class A type of fires. A foam fire extinguisher is recommended for fires related to flammable liquids such as diesel, petrol, alcohol, oils, etc. The foam produced by the extinguisher is non-toxic.
The foam fire extinguisher works by forming a blanket over the burning surface which starves the fire of oxygen (one of the three elements of the fire triangle). When used it also cools the burning material/surface.
A Foam type extinguisher should be used on:
Flammable liquids like turpentine, paint, petrol, oil, and others
